With decor that's "'70s meets '70s-conception-of-futuristic," inexplicable attractions (bumper cars?), and a grandiose name, The Great Mall of the Great Plains in Olathe offers all the elements of excess that make the suburbs so surreal for city-dwellers. But this behemoth boasts stellar stores that can't be found anywhere else in the metro area, and the crowds are relatively sparse because of its out-of-the-way locale. --AM
