"Pussy," Sister Mary Rotten Crotch

Published on October 19, 2000

Though respected for its uncompromising street-punk songs, Sister Mary Rotten Crotch has won widespread notoriety for its crowd-pleasing cover of Lords of Acid's naughty rave-up "Pussy." Guitarist Allison Saunders nails the tune's melody, and Sister Mary's rhythm section pounds out the beat with more force than the techno-fueled original, but what really powers this remake is singer Liz Nord's alternately alluring and intimidating coo-and-snarl vocals. A rendition of this tune at El Torreon provided one of the year's most memorable moments: Nord, when informed by some nervous youngsters that their teacher was in the crowd, stepped off the stage, approached the woman and repeated the command shouted in the chorus: "Show me your pussy."
