The Flaming Lips at The Granada

Kansas residents know how annoying references to The Wizard of Oz can get, but The Flaming Lips paid loving tribute to Judy Garland's Dorothy without any hint of a patronizing tone. Launching into a psychedelic rendition of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" during their mesmerizing April concert at The Granada, the Lips looped footage of Garland's "Why, oh why?" line so it played repeatedly in the background. Her continuous, desperate "Why?" was eerily brilliant, giving the song a typically warped Flaming Lips feel.
