Bo Ling's Sunday Night Vegetarian Feasts

The smorgasbord at Bo Ling's vegetarian feasts is so delectable that vegetarians won't mind a bit that they have to wait until Sunday night for it. Owners Richard and Theresa Ng celebrate the Buddhist philosophy of kindness to all living beings with an all-you-can-eat vegetarian buffet for $12.50 a person. The yearlong deal lasts until March, though if it catches on, Richard says it may be extended or offered at their Plaza location. Theresa, who is Buddhist, began experimenting with vegetarian dishes to feed monks from the Chinese Buddhist group she attends. When the group was looking for a way to raise money to build a temple in South Africa, the Ngs offered to hold the feasts and donate all proceeds to the endeavor. "A lot of people think vegetarian food means just a little bit of vegetables," Richard says, "but this is different." Some of the featured delicacies include sushi rolls stuffed with mango, marinated daikon radishes or vegetarian ham; fried spring rolls filled with taro root; soup made of vegetable broth and elegant enoki mushrooms; rice wrapped in lotus leaves; and vegetarian dumplings served with a fragrant soy sauce. Dining here is always a Zen-like experience.
