Plaza BlightsLetters from the week of December 13, 2001Published on December 13, 2001Plaza Blights An unjoyful noise: I live right across the street from Solomon's Porch, and it's the noise I find disturbing! When I've mentioned the excessive bombardment of noise, they seem somewhat apologetic, though they are a group that amplifies their music to the level of a rock concert. Inside my home with the windows closed, their pounding music is still quite loud. After their concerts, the people are quite excited and yell and scream a lot and honk their horns at each other. One of our country's greatest values is the right of each person to practice the faith of their own choice. I certainly support this freedom, as does my family. Both of my children are serving in the U.S. Army. I have chosen the Sikh faith to practice. We have a saying: "Those who don't see God in all don't see God at all." I certainly have no objection to anyone choosing Solomon's Porch as their faith, and it is my hope that they can find a place (soon) where they can legally play their music for as long and as loud as they would like to -- somewhere other than a residential neighborhood. Until that time comes, I would like the people at Solomon's Porch to know that they could show respect for their neighbors by playing their music at a volume that doesn't cause such a nuisance. I would also like to see Kansas City take the time to investigate this situation and make the choice to enforce the nuisance noise law. Poo Corner Green eggs and slam: As a once-frequent patron of the Corner Restaurant, I was saddened by the rapid decline in food quality over the past year, and I agree with Charles Ferruzza that the lure of the Corner Restaurant has soured ("Past Due," November 29). On my last visit, my order of scrambled eggs was returned to the kitchen because of the addition of dead flies, which I had not requested. Five minutes later, the waiter returned the same plate of now cold and gummy scrambled eggs, without the flies. When I tried to complain, the waiter told me that the manager was doing the cooking. No wonder. Backyard Wrestling Vexed and the city: Regarding Andrew Miller's "Around Hear" (November 15): Until the light-rail and Madrid Theatre opponents, I had thought NIMBY was exclusively a suburban phenomenon. Rick Hellman Prairie Village Winning Pitch Paper brag: I just wanted to say thank you for this little paper of yours. I just moved to Lawrence, and I have no idea what is going on around the area. With the Pitch, I have been able to see what kind of concerts are going on and read about some strange but fun things. Once again, thank you and keep up the good work. Good news: I just wanted to write this letter so that I could say thank you for doing such a wonderful job. I am from Raytown, Missouri, but I am now stuck in the frigid north of Iowa going to Cornell College. I am a subscriber of the e-newspaper that you guys have, but I must say, it was great picking up a good ol' hard copy of the Pitch when I went home for Thanksgiving. Keep up the great work! I look forward to my e-mail from you guys each and every week!
