"I don't think I should have to answer questions about the race of the women I date. It's 2002, and people can do what they want. There's an incorrect perception about me and black women, and I'm uncomfortable with it. The perception that all I date is white women is untrue. I have gone out on dates with nearly every race."
-- Jason Whitlock, WHB 810
GH: Whitlock had an extended discussion about interracial dating and why some black male athletes prefer to date and marry white women. Read on for some excerpts.

"In terms of athletes I have talked to that have dated outside their race, the one thing I've heard on a consistent basis is they talk about cooperation. They feel that white women are more cooperative."
-- Whitlock, 810
"A prominent NFL player, a black dude, cracked a joke amongst friends saying, 'When it comes to dating, if you ever see me walking down the street hand-in-hand with a black woman, she probably took something from me and I'm just holding her for the police.' I couldn't believe the dude said it."
-- Whitlock, 810
"A black woman told me that black athletes have fun with white women but marry black women. But I see a lot of black athletes marrying white women. I take heat from both [races]. I was always someone who got along well with both races by being myself, and people liked that. It bothers me when people make the charge of racism towards me."
-- Whitlock, 810
"Whitlock's column about the Royals' being racist was just preposterous. It's just his way to try and upset everybody. If you're going to call the Kansas City Royals racist, then you better have some facts. And there were no facts given in the paper. That's just irresponsible."
-- Soren Petro, KMBZ 980, regarding a May 9 Kansas City Star column about the Royals' relationship with Frank White
"David Glass has a business plan for this [Royals] team, but none of the fans know what that plan is. There is a reason they don't know, because it would be devastating for the city."
-- Bill Maas, after saying that Glass' business plan could be to have the Royals contracted or moved to another city, 810
