"Bring me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to be ... stark raving lunatics." That seemed to be what Fuddy Meers was shouting at the Unicorn last December. David Lindsay-Abaire's play starred a perfectly cast Melinda McCrary as a befuddled, mousy woman trying to maintain her dignity while her cockeyed family falls apart around her. Insomnia as a plot device has been overused for years, but the author said "fuck that" and added for good measure politically incorrect characters suffering from lisps, limps and stroke damage. There was nothing funnier all year.
