Many locals don't even know that Overland Park Botanical Gardens exists. Maybe that's why it's such a peaceful place for a picnic. The gardens are designed to resemble outdoor "rooms." The water garden features a gorgeous waterfall and uncommon aquatic and bog plants. The woodland garden surrounds a path through dogwoods, ferns and azaleas. And the legacy garden showcases Kansas native plants. Plenty of benches offer spots to contemplate the flora and fauna while noshing on sandwiches, pasta salad and any other goodies that can be stuffed into a picnic basket.
