Project Groove at the Pool Room

With its low ceiling, muddy PA and a lighting rig that could be powered by a couple of D-cell batteries, the Pool Room is an unlikely venue for live music. But for the last year or so, the watering hole at 925 Iowa in Lawrence has been home to Project Groove, a consistently excellent showcase that features the cream of the local underground hip-hop crop as well as bona fide rap superstars. On any given Friday, area heads can ear-check hot KC and Lawrence talents such as Mac Lethal, Deep Thingkers and SoundsGood, or catch big names such as Killah Priest, Dalek and Murs. Project Groove also hosts a number of B-boy competitions, MC battles and DJ duels.
