This season was supposed to be a sweet return to Omaha for the Nebraska baseball team. After two consecutive years of qualifying for the College World Series, the Huskers looked poised to make it three straight, with home field advantage aiding them through the qualifying rounds of the NCAA tournament. None of that mattered to lowly Southwest Missouri State, which blanked the Huskers 7-0 in the deciding game of the series, then knocked off highly favored Ohio State to earn the school's first trip to the CWS. The Bears were batted around from there, but for a midmajor school with a relatively minuscule athletic budget, Southwest Missouri State proved its mettle just getting to Omaha at all.
