4/17-4/18

Step aside, kids. This week we found a few ways for our older friends to have some sporting fun. The Kansas City Metropolitan 50-Plus Softball League season starts this week, with men's and women's games at 8:15 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. Saturday at Colman Park (59th Street and Lane Avenue in Raytown) and a men's game 5 p.m. Sunday at Frank White Sports Complex (3901 Southwest Longview Road in Lee's Summit). For more information, call 816-941-3878.

Also, the Old School Reunion Committee, formed from the 1974 graduating classes of Central, Lincoln, Manual and Southeast high schools, seeks to "unite former rivals with their common experiences." They've largely accomplished this goal with the Old School Basketball Tournament. Games go from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Penn Valley Community College gymnasium (3201 Southwest Trafficway). We hope the old-school theme doesn't include the uniforms. For information or tickets, call 816-497-4886. --Annie Fischer

Heavy Spiel

SAT 4/17

If hockey is the "coolest game on ice," that leaves room for curling, which is the "hottest sport on ice," according to the Kansas City Curling Club. Check out the stone-sliding, icebound sport at this weekend's Inaugural Bonspiel at Pepsi Ice Midwest (12140 West 135th Street in Overland Park, 913-851-1600). -- Michael Vennard

Let's Walk

SAT 4/17

There's still time to raise pledges for the MS Walk. By starting a 3- or 6-mile route at one of two different locations in the metro on Saturday morning, walkers can raise money to fight the debilitating effects of multiple sclerosis. Call 913-432-3926 or see www.msmidamerica.org to get started. -- Vennard
