Wrestling fans are among the most devoted in all of fandom. Particularly the fans of Midwest Renegade Wrestling, who follow their heroes all over Missouri and Kansas and talk righteous smack to each other on the Internet. If you can't yet count yourself among this fevered multitude, head to Amos Activity Center, on the hardcore streets of Lenexa (10111 Lenexa Drive), to watch WWE-style matches at amateur prices. This Saturday's 7 p.m. bill, called Boiling Point, offers the vanilla antics of Mark Sterling (defending himself from the hissy-fit-prone Ryan Ash) and a bout between the masked Super Electro and steel-chair-brandishing Brett Young. Lawrence skaters want to improve their lame terrain.

When Lawrence built the Centennial Skate Park nearly 6 years ago, it was the first of its kind for the region. "There weren't any other parks to compare it to," says skateboarder Stephanie Pugh. "Now better parks are being built for even cheaper." Using an automotive analogy, Pugh compares the town's skate park (located between Sixth and Ninth streets on Rockledge) to a Ford Model-T getting smoked by faster cars.

To soup up their rides, Lawrence skaters and promoters organized This Is Needed, a series of fund-raising events to expand the park, including a barbecue and DJ session from 5 to 8 p.m. and a "best trick" contest at 7 p.m. Later, festivities move to the Bottleneck (737 New Hampshire) for an art opening and an all-ages concert from area hip-hop acts. According to the U.S. Naval Observatory, this Friday the sun sets on Kansas City at precisely 8:38 p.m. , with darkness falling over the city a half-hour later. This is also when the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art (4525 Oak) begins a screening of Johnny Depp's 143-minute Keith Richards impersonation, Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl, on its north lawn as part of the Shuttlecock Cinema series.
