I Love You But I've Chosen DarknessThursday, March 23, at the Jackpot Saloon.By Eryc EylPublished on March 23, 2006I love you, but you smell like an airport. I love you, but I won't eat snails. I love you, but Blossom is on. I Love You But I've Chosen Darkness might be the most cumbersome of full-sentence band names, but it's also the most evocative. The Austin, Texas, quintet's sound, which owes debts to spacey, gloomy Brits such as Spacemen 3 and Ian McCulloch, swirls, pulsates and echoes in a pitch-black cave of sin, sweat and sadness. While bass player Edward Robert and drummer Tim White rumble menacingly below, the twin guitars of Ernest Salaz and Daniel Del Favero paint chiaroscuro backdrops against which sullen vocalist Christian Goyer acts out his dark tales of loves lost in the gloaming. I love you, but I have to go see this band.
