House NationProducers of electronic beats are the faceless shadows behind the DJ mixes you love and admire — they're the real creators of tune. Two of the best beat conductors in the Midwest, Pat Nice (a Kansas City house music godfather) and Ion (St. Louis), foot the bill at the Grand Emporium this Friday for House Nation. Ion has 10 years of DJing and production experience, with Derrick Carter having made use of one of his more funkdafied original productions on a touted mix album. The under-21 crowd in KC has typically been shut out by house music in the past, but Jack and Jill (the club's resident DJs) are trying to change that by offering one of the best 18-and-up dance nights in the city at a venue perfect for the calling. To the kids who just graduated high school last month: Come and get a taste of dance at 21.
