Playing a leader who wondered whether the war was necessary in the Shakespeare in the Park production of King Henry V, which closed last week, he made us ache for the real thing. He wooed Princess Katherine despite not knowing the language, convincing her to marry him within five minutes of their introduction. He accomplished these things in flouncy sleeves. He wears chain mail and brandishes a sword, which, now that we think about it, should probably be a requirement for subjects of this column.

He emerged unscathed from Duck Hunter Shoots Angel, a show of epic godawfulness. He has an adorably crooked nose. The top theater folks in this town speak of him in the absolute highest terms; they think he is the real deal.

He rubbed elbows with crushworthy Campbell Scott last December on the set of the film Civil War Stories, in which he played crushworthy William Randolph Hearst. He gets his hair cut at the same salon that we do, and the stylists say he's very polite.

He's been spotted at Sunday morning hangover joints with pretty women, which means there's a chance he's straight. And that he might drink. And that if even he's not straight, perhaps sometimes he drinks so much that he forgets. Which counts. Plus, his curls are cute.

That's why this week we love Nathan Darrow.
