The Golden State's Cold War Kids have kept busy following the 2006 release of Robbers & Cowards, a stellar debut brimming with lucid narratives. The indie quartet isn't above paying tribute to its influences, either, especially when it's for a good cause. At the group's Web site, you can download Benefit at the District, a six-track EP taken from an acoustic performance for breast-cancer awareness. The all-covers set list dips into the pool of the usual suspects, including Elvis Costello and Tom Waits, as well as a couple of surprises, such as Lawrence Welk's "Tonight, You Belong to Me." (Bubbles not included.)
