Letters from the week of June 7

In response to Ms. Garcia-Muzquiz's self-congratulatory rant to "Ask a Mexican", a column I personally find offensive, as if we here in America have an obligation to educate ourselves on Mexican culture...On second thought, to ALL who have written in on the issue of illegal aliens (not "immigration" as some may call it) -WHY should we feel grateful to those who overrun our borders ILLEGALLY, stay here ILLEGALLY, bare children on our soil ILLEGALLY, then expect we should simply turn a blind eye to it and begin shelling out public assistance?

We have a problem here in America, it's called corrupt government. We, The People, have been asking for a solution to this HUGE issue which impacts ALL American citizens from our local, state, and federal governments for many years, and nothing has been done. On the contrary, our government's answer to the issue has been to allow it to persist, unabated, to the point now where people like Ms. Garcia-Muzquiz believe illegal aliens should be entitled to a gift from the American people -in the form of automatic citizenship- for breaking the law! I, for one, say "no" to this invasion, the reasons for which have been discussed here and elsewhere at length. Somewhere in that discussion, much of our citizens' concerns are lost, drowned out by those who would call us racist for protecting our borders and national interests. Just because we share a border doesn't give the Mexican people the right to demand anything from our country unless they are willing to go through what other people do to obtain citizenship. We don't owe you anything, and contrary to current popular belief, this country wasn't built by Mexicans. Stop acting like you're owed anything from America. Come into this country LEGALLY, jump through the hoops and gain your citizenship LEGALLY. NO amnesty, NO automatic citizenship, especially for people who came and remain here ILLEGALLY.
