 Dogstock 2007, a four-day festival in tiny Melvern, Kansas, could just as easily be called “Wakarusa Redux.” The jam-happy headliners include Vince Herman’s Great American Taxi, Papa Mali and Green Lemon. This year marks the fifth anniversary of the homegrown festival, which helps the Akita Adoption and Rescue Foundation. But Dogstock also stretches beyond Waka’s reach with big draws that include Bernie Worrell (of Parliament), Colonel Bruce Hampton, Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey, Leon Russell, Chubby Carrier and Moon-alice (featuring G.E. Smith from Saturday Night Live). Local faves such as the Gaslights and the Wayne Gottstine Band round out the 100-band lineup (peruse the list at myspace.com/dogstockmusicfest), which will stretch across multiple stages flanked by vendors, campers and activist organizations. Four-day passes run $60 a pop; pick up a one-day pass for $20 in advance or $25 at the gate.
