St. Vincent, whose real name is Annie Clark, has performed as a member of the Polyphonic Spree and has just released her full-length debut, Marry Me. The album is as great as its title and is reminiscent of Bjork's early career. St. Vincent pals around or plays with the likes of Sufjan Stevens, Grizzly Bear and Xiu Xiu, so she's pretty much indie-rock royalty.
Slightly more below the radar is St. Vincent's Beggars Banquet labelmate Scout Niblett, a native of Nottingham, England, who resides in Oakland, California. Niblett is a quirky storyteller who makes slightly less accessible -- but nonetheless enchanting -- minimalist pop.
