A meet-and-greet session comes full circle tonight when the Kansas City Women in Film and Television organization gathers for the purpose of viewing a documentary about the Kansas City film industry. Equal parts social hour, film discussion and networking opportunity, KCWIFT sessions are an opportunity for filmmakers, film enthusiasts and actors to meet over cocktails and hors d’oeuvres at various KC venues. “Our priority is to promote and empower women in the film, entertainment and media industry,” founding member Jill Crowley tells the Pitch. “But we have almost as many male members as women. Networking is networking, and it helps everyone in the film industry to meet as many people as possible.” At tonight’s gathering at Californos (4124 Pennsylvania, 816-531-1097), budding filmmaker and KCWIFT student member Sarah Whorton makes her debut with Grab Your Piece of Cake, a short film documenting her journey into the Kansas City film scene. “We’re very excited about Sarah’s debut and that we were able to sponsor her project,” Crowley says. “Women filmmakers are hard to find, and with our help and support, we want to change that.” Cocktail hour starts at 5:30, followed by the 7:30 movie. A $5 donation is suggested at the door. For more information, call 816-215-4005 or see kcwift.org. Grab Your Piece of Cake
