A meet-and-greet session comes full circle tonight when the
Kansas City Women in Film and Television organization gathers for the purpose of viewing a documentary about the Kansas City film industry. Equal parts social hour, film discussion and networking opportunity, KCWIFT sessions are an opportunity for filmmakers, film enthusiasts and actors to meet over cocktails and hors dÂoeuvres at various KC venues. ÂOur priority is to promote and empower women in the film, entertainment and media industry, founding member Jill Crowley tells the
Pitch. ÂBut we have almost as many male members as women. Networking is networking, and it helps everyone in the film industry to meet as many people as possible.Â
At tonightÂs gathering at Californos (4124 Pennsylvania, 816-531-1097), budding filmmaker and KCWIFT student member Sarah Whorton makes her debut with Grab Your Piece of Cake, a short film documenting her journey into the Kansas City film scene. ÂWeÂre very excited about SarahÂs debut and that we were able to sponsor her project, Crowley says. ÂWomen filmmakers are hard to find, and with our help and support, we want to change that. Cocktail hour starts at 5:30, followed by the 7:30 movie. A $5 donation is suggested at the door.
