It happens all too frequently at local hip-hop shows. Someone bobbing her head and sipping her Red Bull and vodka will silently wonder, Am I wasting my time attending these concerts? Or would my time be better spent — oh, I don’t know — curing cancer? Fret not, bass heads, because tonight at the Beaumont Club (4050 Pennsylvania, 816-561-2560) music fans can kick off National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month by attending a hip-hop show. For $10 admission, the St. Jude’s Benefit Concert showcases well-known rhyme spitter Reach and DJ Ataxic, along with rappers Trajik and Below Zero. A reggae band called Jahration and rockers Dollhouse Rumor, Paradigm Grip and the Union also perform. The money raised at the door goes to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. Doors open at 6 p.m., and the show starts at 7.
