Moved Again

If you didn’t know better, you might think The Crossroads Infoshop is trying to keep one step ahead of the FBI. After all, the often-surveilled radical bookstore has moved three times in as many years. After a celebrated launch in 2004, the local anarchist haunt lasted barely a year at its original Crossroads location, shutting down in mid-2005 because it couldn’t swing the rent. The political gathering spot shifted to an awkward, closet-sized space in the back of the Creative Minds Art Center, where the leaking roof imperiled the cramped collection of leftist books and ‘zines. But today, the infoshop debuts its new digs with a party featuring food, games and live music. For the past five months, volunteers have been building bookshelves, repainting walls and resanding the floor of a kick-ass balcony to spruce up this revived storefront at 3109 Troost Avenue. Check out the shop’s expanded collection of books and magazines when it open today at 1. Stick around for the festivities that kick off at 7 p.m.
