This weekend marks the 941st anniversary of the Battle of Hastings. Armed with stone missiles and arrows, the Normans and the Saxons duked it out for the English crown. Tonight, in a less violent fashion, local bands at Mike’s Tavern (5424 Troost, 816-444-3399) will utilize sticks (of the drum variety) and axes (of the guitar variety) in a Battle of the Bands to benefit the UMKC Association of Women Law Students’ scholarship fund. Funky Munky Music (10709 Shawnee Mission Parkway, Shawnee, 913-268-5555) is the event’s sponsor. At press time, the lineup boasted Big T and the Shrieking Eels, (the Parentheticals), and Patrick Lentz and the P Lentz Project. Ten bucks gets you into the show. Throw down with $5 PBR pitchers and $2.50 Boulevard Pints. Mike's Tavern
