Plenty of dance music is made by DJs turned producers. But Friday, Cicada Rhythm brings a truly live dance act in Motion For Alliance. This band is known in its native Boulder, Colorado, for putting on spontaneous live shows, utilizing drum pads and other electronic and acoustic instruments. These shows are completely improvised and none of them will ever happen again, as one of MFA's band members says in a YouTube video. Expect a kind of jamtronica, ranging from groovy, acoustic-tinged trip-hop to atmospheric jungle reminiscent of Thievery Corporation. Capitalizing on the Lawrence crowd's blend of willing-to-party college kids and open-minded neohippies, Cicada Rhythm has survived for 10 years as one of the best party starters in the area.
