Totally free idea for KKFI 90.1, courtesy of Night & Day: Print up T-shirts that read: "It will be a great day when independent radio gets all the money it needs and Clear Channel has to hold a bake sale." We adapted that from some hippie bumper sticker we saw on the back of a Prius. Anyway, the perpetually fundraising indie station gets a celebrity boost tonight with two events featuring commentator Jim Hightower.Hightower has been syndicating his arch, fiery populism since 1993 in print, radio and now, short videos you can embed on your LiveJournal. So it stands to reason that he's a big supporter of independent media. "He was very willing to come," says Bill Clause, the station's special-events coordinator. "There are two parts to this event. There's a meet-and-greet early in the evening, and then he's doing a hell-raising speech in church." That's Community Christian Church at 4601 Main, where Hightower will preach the populist gospel at 8 p.m. Meet the man from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Californos (4124 Pennsylvania). For $50, you can attend both events; admission for just the speech costs $25 at the door. For tickets and information, call 816-931-3122.
