Someone Else's Money

Drinking holes can't legally host gambling events, so poker lovers came up with a clever solution: Poker Pub. The national card-playing operation can be found nightly in area bars. Tonight, it's at the Pool Room (925 Iowa in Lawrence) at 7 and 10 p.m. No need to come loaded with cash — it's free for anyone 21 or older. Each player gets $4,000 in "chip points," and winners get to use their bounty to score prizes, including a trip to the Poker Pub National Tournament of Champions in Las Vegas. Last year's national champion was from Lawrence, so the Pool Room may be imbued with good poker vibes. For more information, call 785-749-5039 or see thepokerpub.com.
