Songs to Chill to

For a dude whose name is synonymous with Hawaiian shirts and parrot hats, Jimmy Buffett has enjoyed a longer hot streak than a volcano. In 2001, he was kicked out of a Miami Heat game for cursing in the presence of children. The episode came five years after Buffett penned the song "Jamaica Mistaica" — dedicated to the Jamaican police who shot at his airplane because they believed it was smuggling marijuana (a gateway drug to a lifetime of margarita abuse). But these faux pas are offset by Buffett's commendable dedication to saving manatees and rebuilding New Orleans. Likewise, it's no day at the beach to start a Buffett cover band; Parrotheads are the hardest of hardcore fans. The good news is that Buffett's 30-plus albums boast only a half-dozen numbers that make the polyglot go fruitcake. If Bluffett, from Fort Smith, Arkansas, nails those songs tonight during its first visit to the Jazzhaus (926 1/2 Massachusetts in Lawrence, 785-749-1387), the whole crew will have a license to chill.
