OK, let's play that word association game. Let's start with beach and January. You're thinking downtown and Kansas City, right? No? Fortunately for you, the volleyball stars on the AVP Crocs Hot Winter Nights Tour tonight at the Sprint Center can help you forget that 5-degree windchill factor. The competitors include two-time Olympic bronze medalist Holly McPeak and gold-medal winner Dain Blanton (who also was a runner-up on The Bachelor). They'll be in KC — along with 200 tons of sand — for a round-robin tournament, swapping partners as they look to crown the new kings of Kansas City beach volleyball. Yes, beach volleyball. In Kansas City. In January. Tickets cost $18 to $65, but kids 13 and younger get $5 off. Call 816-931-3330 or see avp.com/schedule/winter_tour.jsp. avp.com/schedule/winter_tour.jsp
