Meet the Mayor

By David Martin

Published on January 24, 2008

Kansas City Mayor Mark Funkhouser is under siege. He has lost the City Council. Bloggers nip at his heels. The Kansas City Star editorial board has turned against him. Yep, the 6-foot-8 Funkhouser is even clumsier than he looks. But say this for the guy: He continues to try to engage the public. The mayor's next town-hall meeting is tonight at 6 on the fifth floor of the Kansas City, Missouri, Public Library's Central Branch (14 West 10th Street, 816-701-3400). Funk usually begins these events with 15 minutes of remarks before accepting questions. The mayor will need to be at the top of his game — this evening's hosts are the conscientious urbanites who make up the Downtown Neighborhood Association.
