When it comes to trusting Spaniards, don't make like Westley from The Princess Bride. Give Kiko de Gallo your hand, and he'll pull you right up to the party. This transplanted native of Cadiz, Spain, has spent the past couple of years making a name for himself as one of the new local catchall DJs, mixing hip-hop, electro-rock, house, disco, funk and a slew of other sounds. Kiko's latest residency injects a much-needed shot of flavor into an increasingly bland nightlife scene. With Shaking the Beats every Friday night at One80, Kiko showcases his own eclectic spin alongside a special guest, and this week's visitor is not to be missed. John Bourke hails from Oklahoma City, but his reach extends to New York, where his group, Trash Yourself, works at putting the heavy metal into Daft Punk. On the group's raucous remix of Blur's "Song 2," for example, mechanical beats, distorted guitar and garbage-compactor bass provide quite the head-check to the woo-hooing '90s rocker.
