The Westport-midtown connection has been DJ Just's domain for more than a decade, and it's easy to see why. Just was there when clubgoers would wild out for hip-hop in the '90s, when that music wasn't even heard on local radio, and he has since adapted his playlist for the hipster-dominated dance floors of 2008. Now, every Thursday at Glow (above the Lava Room at 3810 Broadway), Just kicks off his weekly residency with dub and various golden-era tracks. But once the late crowd arrives, he flips the page to uptempo club hits. Even the shelved would-be hit "Stunna Glasses at Night," by hyphy group the Federation, is in heavy rotation. There's a long list of old-school DJs around here who have failed to catch up to new music trends and fallen off. They would do well to look to Just's example and get some new fucking music.
