Tonight's Bourbon Street Runway Fashion Show at William Jewell College brings area designers and members of Jewell's Black Student Association together for a Hurricane Katrina benefit with a carnivale theme. Organizer Bethany Brown, president of the Black Student Association at Jewell, says, "We're trying to raise awareness of ongoing relief efforts. It took longer than three years to build New Orleans, and it will take longer than three to rebuild it." It's a showcase of fashions from three area boutiques. Men's apparel is from Sir Knight on Antioch. Women's clothing comes from two Liberty stores: Women's-apparel boutique Quotations will dress faculty and staff, and the younger-audience-geared Zabedo will clothe high school and college-age girls. The event begins at 7 p.m. in the John Gano Memorial Chapel on the Jewell campus (500 College Hill in Liberty, 816-781-7700) and includes a Best Dressed contest and a Strut Your Stuff competition, in which audience members take the catwalk. Tickets cost $5 in advance or $7 at the door.
