Today is the final day of Black History Month, lengthened this year to 29 days by that quadrennial idiosyncrasy of the calendar known as leap year. Before slipping into the rainy, Celtic-swamped days of March, you can use your last day of February to mark one more celebration of black history — at a local event with a proudly expository name.The grand finale of Black History Month (according to the event's organizers) is the Eighth-Annual BlackOut tonight at the Screenland Theatre (1656 Washington). Starting at 7 p.m., BlackOut features live music, poetry readings, a DJ, a film screening and a fashion show. Be warned, however: Only black attire is allowed, and it must be "stylish and upscale." Sorry, athletic wear simply doesn't make the BlackOut cut. The event is 21-and-older only, and tickets range from $5 in advance to $20 at the door. Call 816-965-7697 for more information. Blackout
