The only animal usually referenced in this weekend's festivities is the snake, so we raise our glasses in salute to St. Patrick and his apocryphal expulsion from the Emerald Isle, home to those that slither. But during this year's imbibing, why not keep in mind the more domesticated animals whose expulsion from homes depresses us all?At 7 tonight, St. Pet's Day combines your support for drinking and the fighting of pet overpopulation. It's staged by No More Homeless Pets Kansas City at the headquarters of Boulevard Brewing (2501 Southwest Boulevard). The event will raise funds to help stop the euthanasia each year of about 25,000 dogs and cats in the metro. This year's event features Boulevard beer, Jack Stack barbecue and a DJ. Tickets for the 21-and-older event cost $65 or $100; the costlier ticket gets you a private tour, a tasting and reserved seating. See nmhpkc.org or call 816-505-4555 for info and tickets.
