What a Lady

Poor New Orleans: Will we ever think of it again without first thinking of Katrina? Who knows — but Heather Weathers may or may not help. The New Orleans performance artist is in town for her exhibition Death of a Stereotype: Super Fun Feminist Happy Hour! She will show her new video and photographs tonight at the Slap-n-Tickle (504 East 18th Street, 816-716-5940). Weathers, who also once had an exhibition called Ass Print Wallpaper, employs personal icons and symbols to neutralize stereotypes about women in current culture. She has used chocolate, tomatoes, rope, crawfish and menstrual blood (let's hope not this time). Weathers hopes to create a visual dialogue that communicates her version of feminist ideas and the history of "women's work." Tonight's opening includes performances by local belly dancers and musicians. Suggested donation: $1 to $5. Heather Weathers
