Country + Couture

Anna Beyer always wanted her own fashion boutique. At 28, she finally set up shop in an old house near downtown Shawnee and called it Top Shelf Couture. Along with designer denim brands, Beyer peddles Simply Charming, a line of jewelry and tops by local artisan Kathleen Schwart. Beyer also subleases one room to local accessory makers JNKS. (The initials stand for Jacque and Kristie's Styles.) Beyer's style is a little bit high end and a little bit country — she's married to a member of the Outlaw Junkies — which explains the rustic interior of her store. "I have no regular clothing racks," she says. "Everything's hanging from something very countryesque." Top Shelf Couture is located at 5832 Monrovia. Call 913-322-1624.— Crystal K. Wiebe
