Soccer Party

Published on May 15, 2008

Americans normally watch soccer as a sleep aid rather than for entertainment purposes. As a result, we miss the terrific English pastime of drinking pints of beer while yelling at a referee's decision to reward a penalty kick or waiting for David Beckham to suffer a hamstring injury. O'Dowd's Little Dublin Irish Pub at Zona Rosa (8600 Northwest Prairie View Road, 816-268-6333) is trying to change that. The bar holds a Wizards Watch Party at 9:30 p.m. for the Kansas City Wizards' game against Los Angeles. The Los Angeles Galaxy boasts Beckham, a superstar midfielder known for his free kicks, fragility and fashion. The Wizards' star player is Argentinean striker Claudio "The Louse" Lopez, who earned the moniker for his speed, not because he infects fans with head lice.
