Does Your Vote Count?

Election fraud is a notion typically associated with Third World countries. But in the wake of the contested 2000 and 2004 U.S. elections, film director David Earnhardt began exploring the shortcomings of our country's vote-counting process. He researched the lack of security in paperless voting, the 15-hour lines that kept people away from the polls and the need for verification of electronic ballots. His ominous conclusions are set forth in an 81-minute documentary titled Uncounted — The New Math of American Elections, which screens at 7 p.m. at Liberty Hall in Lawrence (644 Massachusetts, 785-749-1912). The event is hosted by Films for Action, a nonprofit group that has been drawing 100-plus attendees to its "marketplace of ideas" screenings in addition to placing activist films on Lawrence public-access channels.
