To mark the 75th anniversary of the 30-second shootout at Union Station that left five dead on June 17, 1933, the Stanley H. Durwood Film Vault's Saturday series this month features some really long gangster movies. At 1:30 today: Brian De Palma's typically operatic 1987 version of the 1960s TV show The Untouchables. Fun fact: Method actor Robert De Niro beat six extras to death with that baseball bat before he was satisfied that he'd properly captured Al Capone's menace. Next week, Tom Hanks' mustache stars in The Road to Perdition, a stately graphic-novel adaptation in which future James Bond Daniel Craig plays a whiny thug. American Gangster, with Russell Crowe and Denzel Washington, closes the series on June 28. The Film Vault is located in the Kansas City, Missouri, Central Library, 14 West 10th Street.
