the road to houlihan'sBy McKay StanglerPublished on July 23, 2008 at 2:01amThe intrinsic appeal of the Country Club Plaza has always been more than merely highbrow shopping and people watching. No, the draws for natives and visitors alike are the Plaza's iconic architecture and design: the neat rows of balustrades, the European-style towers, the still-stunning pedestrian accessibility. Edward Buehler Delk may lack the household-name recognition of the Peis, Wrights and Gehrys of the world, but his contributions are no less important. Delk was selected by J.C. Nichols to design the Plaza, and its enduring aesthetic is acclaimed in architecture circles to this day. Learn more about Delk and his most famous project today at 2 p.m. at "They Built Kansas City," a presentation by William Worley in the Truman Forum of the Kansas City Public Library's Plaza Branch (4801 Main).
