Compared with the high-definition carnage of modern video games, the simpler recreational value of board games can seem a lot less sexy. However, those seeking the social interaction embedded in classic gaming still have options when they've exhausted their Wii or just need to get out of the house.Bored gamers can become board gamers today during the gaming free-for-all at Hometown Games (711 West 23rd Street, Lawrence). Players are invited to bring their favorite board games for a chance to play with others. Though classic games are welcome, the shop houses many modern sci-fi, fantasy and adventure titles, such as Race for the Galaxy and Power Grid. Standby card games (including Magic: the Gathering) are options, too. The free gaming is open to those 13 and older and lasts from 2 to 10 p.m. For more information, call 785-830-8011.
