Remember back when pompadours were piled as high as an elephant's eye, poodle skirts were a national birthright and if you wanted a two-tone gab jacket, you just reached up and plucked it straight off the vine? That was in the 1950s. None of us were alive then, either, but if there's one thing we get nostalgic for, it's eras in which we weren't actually alive -- although it's fair to say that most of us existed as long protein chains at the time. The Goodguys 7th Midwestern Nationals can make anyone feel weird displaced nostalgia for the 1950s, inasmuch as awesome hot-rods inspire nostalgia. Today's event at the Kansas Speedway includes over 3,000 hot rods, customs, street rods and muscle cars. Vendors sell used parts, and tonight, the Richard Petty Ride-Along will be selling rides around the speedway. Admission is $17 for adults, $6 for kids 6 and up, free for kids 6 and under.
