Adopting its name from the smallest amount of fissile material needed to create a nuclear chain reaction, Critical Mass is a culture-jamming cycling event held in cities across the US on the last Friday of the month, framed as a protest, an alternative to both internal combustion and traffic laws, and a celebration. Of cycling! Numbering over a hundred riders a month, now, the Kansas City Critical Mass ride has, indeed, started a chain reaction, and for traffic-light-flaunting riders, it has to be said that there's safety in numbers. The ride starts at 6:30 p.m. at Marsh's Sunfresh in Westport.
