Sure, a certain annual holiday-lighting ceremony gets a lot of attention. But which would you rather have in the season of munificence and good will toward others: an over-the-top illumination of a high-end shopping district or a lighting staged by a charity that kicks off an annual campaign of generosity? If you opt for the latter, head down to Barney Allis Plaza at the corner of 12th Street and Wyandotte tonight at 6 for a City Lights and Kettles on Parade Unveiling and the commencement of the Salvation Army's Christmas Campaign. Help yourself to some free cookies, coffee and hot chocolate. Take in a performance by the Lee's Summit High School marching band, then make the short walk to the Power & Light District for continued holiday activities.
