Impressionism updatedBy Jordan EdwardsPublished on December 03, 2008 at 2:02amIn an age when many young artists look to the future, it's refreshing to meet one with an approach grounded in the past. William Jewell art student Lydia Crigger, whose senior exhibition opens this afternoon, isn't shy about her love of impressionism. "When I saw a Seurat in Chicago at the Art Institute, I sat down and cried in front of one of his paintings," she confesses. A highlight of Crigger's show is the impressionist-inspired "The Face of Creation," a 4-foot-square oil painting of her sister's child, who died at birth. The exhibition starts at the university's Stocksdale Gallery (500 College Hill in Brown Hall) with an opening reception from 2 to 4:30 p.m. The exhibition runs through December 19.
