Rock and roll may not make people dance like it did in your mom's favorite John Travolta movies, but it still has the power to inspire some violent head-bobbing. The Melismatics sprint to the front of the neck-dance pack with pogo drumbeats and bass lines that sound like they're in heat. The Minneapolis band charmed the producers of such TV shows as Laguna Beach and Windfall into pushing its aphrodisiacal tracks on unsuspecting teenagers. It's likely that the 'Matics have also gunned the mojo of more than one fan in Kansas City. Behind the glossy veneer is some genuinely smart pop rock, a quality that bodes well for the wallflowers in the crowd.
