Cosmology Theater at Linda Hall LibraryPublished on January 07, 2009 at 2:02amThe Pitch 2008 Best Place to Meet Intelligent Men Down a set of stairs inside the Linda Hall Library lies a little jewel called the William N. Deramus III Cosmology Theater. Occupied by solitary people contemplating the universe, it's quiet, dark and sexy. On the screen, an ever-changing array of information glides past: updates on the Hubble telescope and its broadcasts from space along with photos of stars, black holes, moons, planets and asteroids that look like 1970s van art. On one trip, we learned about the concept of galactic cannibalism, which sounds like a pretty foolproof conversation starter. And because the library usually brims with cute grad students and professors who pop into the theater for a peek, there are plenty of prospects for deep talks about deep space.
