Amanda Nervig, a recent Kansas City Art Institute fiber-arts grad, makes goofy little alien-looking creatures out of brightly colored yarn. She also spins decidedly nonalien-looking tank tops, miniskirts and dresses out of acrylic and nylon. Her collection includes sweaters decorated with pictures of her cat, Tellulah. Watch her clothing creations in action at her fashion show at Harling's Upstairs (3941 Main) tonight at 7. Attendees will also be treated to works by David Gant, an artist regionally known for his authentic re-creations of Civil War uniforms. Gnarly Dan and DJ Boyfriend will provide the aural entertainment, and later there's an afterparty featuring punky two-step from Coat Party and garage rock by Wrong Crowd. The best part? Nervig says the cover charge is "a smile." Amanda Nervig
