SHE'S COME UNDONE

A couple of hours spent gazing upon the lovely Catherine Deneuve is the payoff. The catch? A couple of hours (and then some) of director Roman Polanski messing with your head as he puts Deneuve's Carol (a naïve, neurotic beautician) through the psychosexual wringer in 1965's Repulsion. It's part of the Kansas City Public Library's fourth-annual series "Searching the Psyche Through Cinema" with "love and obsession" as the theme (and co-sponsored by the Greater Kansas City and Topeka Psychoanalytic Center with UMKC). This film depicts the already fragile Carol's slow descent into madness after she is left unattended in her sister's flat for a fortnight. Following the film, which screens at 1 p.m. at the Library's Plaza Branch (4801 Main), a discussion will be led by a UMKC film professor and a psychoanalyst.
